Learning Libraries 3.0 is history, and we want to learn from our experience. Next time, here are some things we would try:
- Before the workshops take place, hold a conference call with sponsors.
- Ensure each team has a sponsor, and the sponsors know their roles.
- Help sponsors understand that the team should be able to come up with a project idea and 'sell' it to them--and they can help by giving teams a framework for their projects (for example, 'something to help us make the school partnership more effective') and by asking them the questions that will help them get more concrete about the project and about system expectations.
- Alert sponsors to resources available to them on the wiki
- Could hold a mid-year conference call with sponsors to check in, as well.
- Hold 4 sessions of each workshop around the state, not 5
- We like the energy of having more teams in each workshop, and teams benefit from the experience of others, too.
- Design elements need to include as much participant-generated content as possible
- Interaction is strongest on Day 1, where the learners experience the Five Principles. We can do more of that in Day 2 and in subsequent sessions.
- Participants asked for more time to work together on their projects. We could add an optional half-day to the Six-month workshop for teams who want to use that time.
- Keep the conference call check-ins with teams
- Could break them into somewhat smaller groups to encourage more interaction
- Could give them an assignment to read the wiki first, find out what one of the other teams is doing, and ask that team a question about it.
- Consider shorter and more focused calls for teams that need or want more specific consulting help on their projects. (Some teams sought out the facilitator for assistance during the year anyhow--we could advertise this availability and assume that 20% or so of teams might want it.)
